We all know the story of Christmas, and there will be plenty of retellings of the Nativity coming up as we move into December. But celebrating the midwinter solstice has a far more ancient history. Join us to find out more about alternative ancient winter holy-days, who were (and are!) the people who celebrate them, and how and why we all enjoy a firelight feast in the middle of December. We’ll look a global traditions, from India to New Zealand, and journey through time, from Ice Age shamans to a brand new winter-demon restaurant and show in Tokyo, to explore a common human belief: that in dark times, the best thing you can do is eat, drink and be merry with the people you love.
